Volunteer

One of Beacon’s most valuable resources is our steadfast crew of Volunteers!!

Each and every one of our Volunteers brings with them a love of community, a desire to be a part of something larger than themselves, and a support network for those we serve, as well as one another.

Folks who begin volunteering for a million different reasons, stay because there is something truly magical about Beacon…

We may look like the Island of Misfit Toys, but we have the feeling of home and family… <3

“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy.  You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” -Anonymous

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Food Pantry

Beacon’s food pantry currently provides weekly food assistance to over 1,200 families each month.

Though our food distributions are held Monday - Friday, 12-4pm, our food pantry is a seven-day-a-week operation, that we would not be able to execute without the help of our FABULOUS Volunteers!!

Volunteer positions include assisting with our daily donation pickups from local retailers, sorting produce, prepping and stocking our client choice food pantry for distribution, signing in ‘neighbors’, helping new households enroll Beacon’s food assistance program, logging assistance received in our database, helping to keep our shopping space stocked during distribution, assisting ‘neighbors’ to their cars, cleaning/sanitizing equipment, shopping space, and pantry warehouse at the end of each day, etc.

We have found that Volunteering for a specific shift, one day a week works best in our pantry, as it allows volunteers to get familiar with each day’s tasks/operations, while getting to know each other, as well as those we serve. In this way, our volunteers tend receive just as much, if not more, that what they give, which creates a beautiful synergy!!

If you are interested in volunteering in our food pantry, please fill out our volunteer application and our volunteer coordinator will be in touch to discuss volunteer openings that align with your availability.

And Thank You!! for wanting to be a part of #TeamBeacon!!

It really is a wonderful and fabulous place to get involved and feel a true, meaningful connection with our community!!

  • Thrift Store

Beacon’s thrift store is open Monday-Friday, from 10-4pm.

Aside from offering a low-cost retail alternative to our community, Beacon’s Thrift Store also provides assistance with clothing, household items, and more.  In 2023, our store provided over $9,000 worth of assistance through our voucher program.

Our PHENOMENAL Volunteers help keep our store stocked with a fun, eclectic, always changing collections of like new/gently used books, clothing, housewares, linens, shoes, jewelry/accessories, and more!!

Volunteer positions include greeting and interacting with customers, ensuring everyone feels at home and welcome in our space, hanging & tagging clothes, tagging and putting out items for sale, arranging displays, tidying store, greeting donors and helping to carry items in from vehicles (if help is needed), etc.

If you are interested in volunteering in our thrift store, please fill out our volunteer application and our volunteer coordinator will be in touch to discuss volunteer openings that align with your availability.
